There are many reasons – perhaps you are shy, maybe you are uncomfortable or have a fear of being rejected. Who wants to be rejected?
The first thing to understand is that in our business, we will always get more No’s than Yes! That’s just a fact. When you first get started, there will be a lot of No’s from people. That’s hard to take, isn’t it?
But the secret is if you understand that this is part of the process, it’s easier not to take those personally.
Conquer Your Fear of Talking to People
Before you read these tips to conquer your fear of talking to people, remember that in order to build a successful business, you MUST talk to people. That’s it! So dive in and make it happen. You are the only person that can do it for you.
Remove the emotion. Prospecting in MLM is a process. There are activities that we must do in order to build a business. These activities include talking to people. You must detach yourself from any outcome. In fact, don’t even think about a result, just do the activities that will eventually get you income producing. Some people will like your produce or opportunity, some won’t. Who cares? Move on. The more people you talk to the better. If you take it personally, you won’t get too far with your business. One of the best books I’ve read is “Go for No.” It’s a good story to help you learn that NO is a good thing.
Learn the skills. Personal development is a must for any network marketer. It can help you build confidence and help you learn leadership skills. One of the best books is Go Pro. Eric Worre details the skills that you need to succeed. Think about this. If you were going to be a doctor, you would spend endless hours and years learning how, right? Well, network marketing needs study and practice too. Get the book here.
Just do it. The more you talk to people, the less you will feel the fear of talking to people. Practice makes perfect and this is no different. How bad do you really want to build a successful business? It all starts with talking to that first person. Don’t worry, you’ll get better at talking to people as you learn the skills and emotionally detach yourself from the outcome.
