Did you start the year with great intentions of accomplishing your goals? Usually, a couple of months into the year, your passions go to the wayside and once again, your dreams are on the sidelines.
Does this sound like you? If so, do not despair. You can get back on track with goals. It will take some work but if you are determined, you can do it.
Do not give up on yourself just because you fell off-track for a while. It’s just a small blip that you can overcome and move past.
Get Back on Track with Life
While there is no magic pill to make things right, you can take steps to make anything happen. Get back on track with goals by following these steps.
- Take a break. You’re probably thinking, “Take break? How do I achieve my goals by taking a break?” Well, there is a reason why you are not achieving your goals or sticking with your action plan. Maybe you are overwhelmed with other stuff in your life. Your mind can get overstimulated just thinking about all the things you need to do but didn’t. Take a deep breath and slow down a little. Relax your mind and body. Take a mindful walk or do some yoga. Taking a break helps to get back on track because you are refreshing yourself as you prepare to take your goals to the next level and beyond.
- Evaluate your motivation and intentions. Are you clear about what you really want in life? Think carefully about how your life will change when you have accomplished your goal. How does that make you feel? Picture that in your mind and evaluation the importance of this goal. You’ll discover what is truly important to you. There is your motivation. You are more likely to stay on track with your goals when they matter as much to you as breathing.
- Create an action plan you can stick with. When pursing goals, we all need an action plan. Sometimes it’s not the goal that is out of reach but an action plan that is too aggressive given our current life circumstances. Have you given yourself too much to do towards accomplishing your goal that is not congruent with your present life situation? Rethink your action plan and create one that is feasible within your busy life. If it takes longer to achieve your goal, that is much better than not achieving it at all.
We all get off track with goals from time to time. It’s a struggle to be accountable and committed to our goals. But you can change that. Get back on track with your goals. Start with these three steps. Remember, take baby steps. Don’t overwhelm yourself and you will get there.
Here’s a wonderful book that I highly recommend: How to Get Everything You Want – Faster than You Ever thought Possible by Brian Tracy.
