Rejection. It’s something we all face as network marketers and is the downfall of many. It’s not easy to deal with rejection in MLM but it’s a necessary part of the process and shows that you are truly working your business.
My offer of opportunity or products has been rejected over and over through the years. Notice I said “my offer” and not me. More about that later.
What if I had gotten so down from those first 50 rejections that I quit? Well, I wouldn’t be where I am today, that is a full time online network marketing professional.
I talk to a lot of network marketers who are fairly new to the profession. One thing they have in common is the “I talked to 20 people and they all said No, therefore I am quitting.”
Really now.
No one ever built a six-figure business talking to 20 people or a few family members. It’s time to get serious about your business and start treating it like one.
Deal with Rejection to be a Better Network Marketer
We all get rejection in our profession so deal with it! There are many ways you can do that and each one of those has a consequence, good or bad. You get to choose which you want.
Here’s the bad news.
If you deal with rejection in network marketing by giving up, getting depressed, or deciding this does not work, then you will no have any success at all. There you go. End of story.
Here are the three things you need to stay in the game:
- It’s not about you. We take it so personally when prospects say no to our business or products. They are not rejecting you personally they simply do not have an interest in the product or business. It you tell your good friend about a great movie that they should go see and they say no, what does that mean? It means the movie does not appeal to them but they still like you! Do you feel rejected when your friend doesn’t share the same enthusiasm for something as you do? It’s not about you. Move on.
- Get more NOs. What? That’s right. The more NOs you get, the closer you get to YES. What if out of every 30 people, one said yes? Now if you only talk to 10 people, the chances of you getting a Yes are very low. The more people you talk to, the better you get at talking, and you’ll get to those yes’s a lot faster. I recommend this book, Go for No! Yes is the Destination, No is How You Get There. It’s a fabulous story with an important moral that will help you clearly see why you need more NOs.
- Understand your job. When you understand this, dealing with rejection in network marketing won’t be an issue anymore. Our job is to share information with people. That’s it. We are like messengers, providing information to people. Our job is not to go out and convince anyone to join our business or use our products. We educate people on solutions that will help them in some aspect of their life. That’s it. Some of those people will catch the vision, and others won’t. The day you emotionally detach yourself from the task of providing information to a prospect, is the day you will understand your job.
As network marketers, we deal with a lot of rejection. But it’s all in how you handle it. These three aforementioned tips will get you thinking differently about it.
