Have you gotten that network marketing objection, “I can’t afford it?” Or maybe you are considering starting a home business and think, “I can’t afford that!”
The “I can’t afford it” or “I don’t have the money” way of thinking has little to do with money and everything to do with mindset.
Sure, you can handle the network marketing money objection by saying all the things we’ve been taught, like:
“If I could show you a way to create a positive cash flow …”
“If I could show how you recoup your initial investment …”
“If you don’t have enough money now, what will change for you in the future if you do nothing …”
And the list goes on about things you can say to your prospect.
But, the real thought process behind all this has to do with their mindset.
Objections in Network Marketing and Mindset
The network marketing business model is so powerful! This business model creates more millionaires than any other industry.
So why aren’t more people successful at it?
Most people say they can’t afford it and their thought process is one of thinking they have to fork out this money now, and then a certain amount each month for autoship.
They are thinking only of the money they are spending on their business. They are treating the business opportunity like a hobby they are just getting started instead of a cash generating investment in their future. Hobbies cost money! A business will pay you in the future.
So the real issue here is educating yourself and our prospects about treating their network marketing business as an investment where they will learn how to turn that investment into a recurring income stream.
Think like a business person instead of a hobbyist!
Starting a network marketing business is similar to investing in real estate or stocks. These are all ways where you invest a certain amount of money that has the potential to turn into that recurring income stream.
Now, if you invested in real estate, wouldn’t you take it seriously? You wouldn’t treat that like a little hobby because the amount of cash would be greater so you would definitely treat it like a serious investment.
Well, it’s no different with network marketing. Even though the initial investment is small, usually under $400 and the monthly autoship is small, you should think about it like a million dollar business!
If you are thinking about starting a network marketing business and feel you can’t afford it, think again.
Are you willing to take it seriously and invest in your future?
How long do you think it will take you to truly live the life you desire if you keep working for others?
Lisa, this post is flat out amazing! So many times, people wonder why they can’t get out of the rut they’re in ,and it all comes down to mindset. Whether it’s the can’t afford excuse, or time, or whatever, it’s all just a symptom of where they are in their own head. Glad you gave this topic attention!

Thanks Scott! You are so right… they stay stuck in a rut due to their way of thinking. I believe we need to educate people on seeing things through a different lens.
Lisa,
Not sure how I landed on your page but glad I did. I have been training Network Marketers for years that they need to treat this like a business so it pays them like a business.
You are spot on in your comments above as everyone starts off with the mindset that the second they signup, the check magically should appear next week, next month in their mailbox without putting any work into building their business. Yes, they goto work 8-10 hours a day at a job to make money and will not put 1 hour into their business to make money.
I partnered up with a tax preparation company because I saw very quickly that there are also valuable “tax benefits” of owning and running a home business which typically made it so every person I spoke too could start keeping an extra $200-$500 per month on each paycheck now, which made it so they never thought about “I can’t afford it” but “I’m losing money each month by not making this decision” and now keeping more of their money that they could invest in building them more money.
Sorry for so much text but from your blogs there is a lot of similarity in our thinking on this subject. I always find it fascinating!
Have a great night! Thanks for your great posts!
