One of the biggest complaints I hear from network marketers is that motivating people to take action is a huge challenge. Well, of course it is! Everyone is trying to use the latest motivation techniques and trying to motivate their team, but none of that works.
In this article, I will show you why you should stop motivating people.
We spend so much time posting motivational quotes and images, conducting team calls where we practically beg them to take action and pump up them up, and get everyone excited about their network marketing business.
How is that working for you?
Instead, go find people who are ready to change their lives. Go find people who are ready to make things happen and take action.
Imagine, for a moment, if you have to motivate a person to join your team but they are not motivated from within.
You will practically have to pull that person through every step:
- Beg them to get on team calls
- Call and remind them about autoshipments
- Check up on them regularly to motivate them to share with others.
Yikes, your job will be that of a babysitter.
People are motivated from within. While motivating people works for a moment, it’s not lasting because it’s not inside of them. When someone is ready and takes responsibilty, your guidance will help them succeed.
Motivating People – Are they Chickens or Eagles?
Have you heard the story about the chickens and the eagles? This will help you understand why motivating people is not a great use of your time.
Imagine that the chickens and eagles are two types of people in network marketing.
- Chickens flap around but can’t get too far off the ground. They squabble and fight, and follow the crowd.
- Eagles soar high and always focus on their goal. The eagle does not travel in flocks and is committed and responsible no matter what.
When you look at the chickens and eagles on your MLM team, you’ll notice that they all start out with the same problems, but the eagles take action and do something about it. The chickens just flap around and no matter how hard you work at motivating people, guess what?
You can’t turn a chicken into an eagle!
Stop working so hard at motivating people and start looking for the eagles instead. Find the people who are ready to make a change in their lives.
Remember, you can’t want it for someone more than they want it for themselves. Go soar high like an eagle!
Would like to commend you on a fabulously well written article.
It was interesting to read your thoughts on this topic and would definitely stay tuned for more such pieces from you.
Keep it up.
